Chi Kung Definition

Chi Kung (Qi Gong): Chi Kung is an ancient Taoist idea of spiritual advancement focusing on the concept of meditation and breathing and energy control. Chi Kung has also been accepted as the art of developing vital energy particularly for health, vitality, mind expression, and spiritual cultivation. In this technique the mind directs the breath, activating the 'chi' energy and vitalizing the entire body. Chi Kung involves a vertical stance, arm and hand movements, and strict breathing control.

Chi Kung is also known as "qigong"; "Chi Kung" being he usual English translation of the word while "qigong" is the Romanized Chinese spelling. Both focus on the same goals of mind expansion and vitality.

There are thousands of "types" of Chi Kung in the sense of the different ways in which it can be practiced. Many divide Chi Kung into two divisions: quiescent and dynamic, or internal and external. While others prefer to divide it further into three types: uiescent, dynamic, and quiescent- cum-dynamic.

The benefits that are said to be provided from the art of Chi Kung are curing illness and promoting health, enhancing vitality and developing internal force, promoting youthfulness and longevity, expanding the mind and the intellect, and enhancing spiritual cultivation. All these things are said to be achieved b Chi Kung, but for the most part teachers and students of the art tend to focus primarily on specific aspects and goals they themselves strive to achieve.

Chi Kung is related to kungfu in the aspect that kungfu and the people who study it, strive to achieve their goal of energy training developing the internal force that Chi Kung provides to its students.
